Forgetting Christmas

Forgive us Father,
We have turned this day for worship into one about ourselves
And forgotten the reasons for why we celebrate
Making a place in our hearts for material happiness
Instead of remembering the everlasting joy that can only come from you

Forgive us Father,
We have exchanged the eternal sacrifice of your Son
And replacing it with gifts to celebrate our own wants and desires
Forgetting the blessings you have given us to share with others
And stressing over the last minute gifts that bear no significance

Forgive us Father,
We have lost the meaning for why we should give
And presents have become a replacement for relationships
Failing to spend the time we should with others
Just like we have not made the time for You in our lives

Forgive us Father…forgive us

Flaws

Can you not see that perfection eludes me daily?
That my faults are very real,
And I stumble and fall on my own words.
Do you see that my flaws are part of me?

Can you accept that I stare at others often?
How I make jokes in times of sadness,
And that I do not let somebody see that I care.
Do you observe that I lack compassion to those around me?

Can you accept my selfishness?
That I can make rash and spontaneous decisions,
And that sarcasm can come out while I am frustrated.
Do you notice the laziness I get from doing what I want?

Can you accept that I will talk over you,
That I interject and prefer my opinion heard,
And how I do not listen as well as I should?
Do you detect that I am thickheaded and put my wants first?

Can you show me compassion in times of need?
Give me grace when I do not understand,
Or to forgive my insensitivity.
Can you fix me and make me whole?
